Big news for the Special Group network: in a combined entry from the New Zealand and Australian offices, Special Group won Branding and Design Agency of the Year at the prestigious B&T Awards held in Sydney.
It’s fantastic to get this recognition for our offering after only having our Sydney doors open for two years. It shows that we’re a creative company that delivers equal strength in our branding, design and advertising disciplines, across both sides of the Tasman.
Special Group Australia also won Emerging Agency of the Year.
This makes it a hat-trick after winning Emerging Agency of the Year at both the Mumbrella and Ad News Awards earlier this year.
Well done to the team in Australia, it’s been a big two years!
The Campaign Asia Agency of the Year awards have shortlisted Special Group for 4 awards:
New Zealand Creative Agency of the Year
New Zealand Digital Agency of the Year
Australia/New Zealand Independent Agency of the Year
Australia/New Zealand Specialist Agency of the Year
It’s great to be recognised as a joint force with Special Group Australia across all disciplines, especially digital and design.
We keep our fingers crossed for the big night on 8th December in Singapore.
The Smirnoff Pure Potential campaign took top honours in the Beverages - Alcohol category of the APAC Effie Awards held in Singapore. The judges recognised it as the most effective campaign in the category across the whole Asia Pacific region (that’s only 4.2 billion people over 46 countries!). It’s great to see this campaign platform recognized as a major piece of effective marketing across the region.
Facebook has ranked Special Group as New Zealand’s best at creating integrated campaigns that use Facebook or Instagram. The Facebook Awards celebrate the most creative work on Facebook across the world. The work needs to demonstrate innovation, originality and a strong connection to business success. And the competition is extremely tough – Smirnoff’s Instagram your Fridge won 2 awards and was one of only 24 campaigns selected globally. Like.
We had a great night at the prestigious Best Awards 2016, bringing home a wide range of design awards for our clients. Molenberg took Gold in Spatial Design: Hospitality (our first Gold in Spatial Design). Molenberg also got Silver in Environmental Graphics and Bronze in Colour. The Royal New Zealand Ballet season brochure took Silver in Design Craft. Bronzes went to 2degrees in Moving Image Short Form, Paspaley Pearls in Moving Image Long Form and All Good Karma Cola in Colour. A top night all round.
2degrees ‘Disappearing data’ commercial has come out on top of Colmar Brunton’s Ad Impact Award. The commercial rated extremely highly in impact, branding and persuasion. No other telco has taken home this award this year. Colmar Brunton’s report says the TVC created an affinity for the brand by delivering the main things consumers need from their telco company. In their words: "The NZ viewers thought the ad made 2degrees seem different from other similar companies. The different information provided in the execution was deemed both relevant and credible by the NZ public. This will aid memorability for consumers. Overall, a highly appealing advert that made viewers more likely to consider the brand in the future and would talk about with their friends.”

After a competitive pitch, we’re proud to announce that The Comfort Group have appointed us as their agency to launch Sleepyhead Sanctuary across New Zealand and Australia. The Comfort Group is a great New Zealand success story: a family owned business with a strong share of the Australian as well as New Zealand luxury bed market. Look out for our first work on their brands Sleepyhead and Sleep Maker to launch shortly.
